Shu Ren is proud to be one of very few schools in the U.S that combines the rigor of the International Baccalaureate program with a Mandarin immersion language program. Our programs reflect the diversity, opportunity, and strong sense of community found in the Bay Area. We welcome you to explore Our Program pages to learn more about the unique learning experiences at Shu Ren.
At Shu Ren International School, we teach simplified Chinese as simplified characters are much more prevalent throughout Mandarin speaking communities.
Our early childhood program enrolls students ages 2-5. Students in the early childhood program enjoy a 100% Mandarin language immersion environment where all instruction is carried out in Mandarin by native speakers. The curriculum framework for student learning is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3-12, which is an internationally-recognized curriculum used by the top independent schools in almost 150 countries around the world.
The elementary school program includes students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Students learn in Mandarin Chinese and English through two-way immersion instruction or the Montreal model. The curriculum framework for student learning is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3 -12.
Experiential learning and curriculum is an essential component of making the IB and Mandarin immersion environment come alive for our students and their families. We define experiential learning as any opportunity for students to link their classroom lessons, knowledge, and skills with events, individuals, or experiences outside of the traditional classroom format.
We take pride in preparing our students to navigate a complex international world with extensive lessons in communication, academics, and technology. For children Grades 3 and up, we have a 1 to 1 Chromebook program where students learn important computer skills via the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum model.
We provide a number of after school, summer, and academic year programs that provide further educational opportunities in both Mandarin and English. Whether it be engagement in our various camps or afterschool enrichment, your children will enjoy the various extra curricular activities that will expand their knowledge and skills.
We offer 3 sessions for 2 age groups. The camp runs from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. Early care is provided free of charge for essential workers between 8:00 am - 8:30 am. After Care from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm is available for an additional fee. Summer camp registration for 2023 will open in the spring.
