Shu Ren’s Co-Head of School Deron Marvin Receives Education Fellowship Award

Shu Ren School’s Deron Marvin, has been awarded a fellowship to the 2022 Klingenstein Heads of Schools Program at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. Having been selected from a highly competitive pool of national and international applicants, Deron Marvin is one of only twenty recipients of the award which will include full tuition and accommodations for two weeks.

There is no one more deserving of the honor of this fellowship, and we are confident that he will come away from the experience with a wealth of knowledge to share with the school community,” said Chip Miller, CEO of KSS Immersion Schools, the parent company of Shu Ren International Schools.
Deron Marvin’s educational career spans more than 22 years across US independent schools and international schools. Mr. Marvin has served in top-tier international schools in Asia and Africa as a teacher, IB teacher, dean, middle school principal, elementary school principal, and head of school. Shu Ren is Mr. Marvin’s third headship. He holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies/History from San Francisco State University, an M.A. in Sociology and Education from Columbia University Teachers College, and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Michigan State University. Mr. Marvin is also a regular speaker and writer in the field of effective leadership.
As part of the Fellowship, he will join a cohort of independent and international school heads at Columbia University’s Teachers College to conduct intensive study and collaboration. As part of the program, Mr. Marvin will visit independent schools in New York City to observe a variety of programs and ideas to bring back to Shu Ren International Schools.
